How to add the deposit to your menu
The Deposit Return Scheme, a new bottle and can recycling system, is now live in Ireland as of the 1st of February 2024. For any drinks sold that feature the Re-turn logo, the cost of the deposit should be added to the cost of the drink upon purchase. Customers can reclaim the deposit by returning their containers once they are empty and undamaged to participating shops and supermarkets.
You can now manage and add the deposit information required within the Partner Hub, in the ‘Manage your menu’ section:
- Find the item you want to edit
- Click on the 3 dots in the top right hand corner of the item and select ‘edit item’
- Scroll down to ‘Additional details’, where you can find the ‘Environmental Fees’ section
- Here you can input the correct deposit value into the ‘Drinks deposit fee’ field
- Ensure you click ‘save’ once complete
You will see that the price of the item in the menu management system has not changed after the addition of the deposit, but the changes will be visible to the customers. Below, you can see the before and after updated views once the deposit has been added:
In the basket and checkout, the deposit will not be associated with each individual item. It will appear in the fees section, grouped by deposit value, and linked to the Re-Turn website where customers can learn more about the deposit scheme and find their nearest Re-Turn point:
